Formed in 2007 Mestizo Duo are a vibrant new alternative chamber duo, performing a wide repertoire of composers from South America and Spain, contemporary music alongside more traditional composers from the classical repertoire. Both scholars at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama with David Takeno and Robert Brightmore respectively, Lizzie and Ahmed are also strong solo and chamber artists in their own right. They perform frequently with some of the country’s leading artists such as Ensemble Modern (2007 Boulez European Tour), Bernard Gregor-Smith, Laura Mitchell, O Duo, and Morgan Szymanski in some of the top venues of the UK and further afield. These include the Wigmore Hall, St.John’s Smith Square, Concertgebouw Hall Amsterdam, Theatro Colon in Santiago de Chile and Bogota Colombia. Despite being such a new ensemble Mestizo have a busy schedule of performances in the Wigmore Hall as part of the workshop series, and at other venues such as Bolivar Hall (as part of the Bolivar Hall Festival) Southwark Cathedral, St.James Picadilly, and were recently awarded support from the Concordia Foundation for 2008/09, not only for concerts but also for their tour to Cuba in March 08 (which is also being generously supported by GSMD and Havana Holdings) where they will be establishing the foundations of permanent exchange scheme between talented Cuban and UK classical musicians, which is due to be set up through the Guildhall and Concordia Foundation.
